Bruce Kiefer

Bruce Kiefer, an architect by profession, has been an active photographer since the 1950s. His early work in the medium was mainly photojournalistic. While in high school he worked as a stringer for the Hunterdon County Democrat in his home town of Clinton, NJ, covering local sports and news stories. While in college, he was a staff photographer for the Cornell Daily Sun, "Ithaca's Only Morning Newspaper".

Kiefer studied drawing and scuplture as a student at Cornell University, graphic design at The Art Center in Louisville, KY, and photography at Kent State University, where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree.

His technical mastery of the medium was honed while doing large-format architectural photography in conjunction with his work as an architect, and for various clients and publications, including Architectural Forum, Progressive Architecture, and Architecture.

In the fine art field, Kiefer's special interests involve photography of architecture, landscape and nature. His current work, in which the literal image is manipultaed in varying degrees, explores formal and informal compositions abstracted from nature.
