KC Chilcoat
KC grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore listening to Soul music:
the Supremes, James Brown, Otis Redding, and especially Aretha
Franklin. She started playing guitar in high school--folk songs
at first because they were the easiest to learn--the music of
Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkle. As
her guitar playing improved folk music gave way to psychedelic
music and KC started playing songs from groups like The Doors.
KC met Francis in 1973. Together
they founded the Mountain Momma Band.
When their son was born in 1983, she took a hiatus until he was
8 and their daughter was 3. Rejoining the band, she played keys
while Bill Harris (now of Joe's Garage) played bass and
Francis played guitar. KC continued to play with the band through
various metamorphyses. In the past several years she and Francis
played as an acoustic duo at such places as The Avalon Resort
(in Paw Paw) and Will Fannon's lodge, The Brazenhead Inn (just
south of Elkins) during ski season.
